Godzilla Bass Caught on a Shrimp! Topwater Bass Fishing

Lure: Topwater Shrimp http://bit.ly/Savage_Shrimp
Rod: 7' St. Croix Avid Medium Heavy
Reel: Lews Magnesium http://bit.ly/Lews_Magnesium
Line: 17 lb. Stren Mono http://bit.ly/Stren

It might sound crazy to go bass fishing with shrimp, but in this video you can see that everything, including bass, like to eat shrimp. After all, they are not that much different looking than a primary source of food for bass, the crawfish. This topwater shrimp made by Savage Gear is an excellent bait because you can fish it as a topwater bait, and also flip and pitch it like a jig. On this nice Spring day in Alabama, it was an all you can eat shrimp buffet for the bass.

Mike Iaconelli Catches a BIG Potomac River Bass!

Mike Iaconelli uses his mini flip jig to catch a giant Potomac River bass! He used a black/blue jig with a sapphire blue trailer, a great dirty water lure yet also matches the hatch of the crawfish in this river system.

Pitching Docks With A Drop Shot For Smallmouth Bass

My buddy and I hit one of our favorite lakes for the first time since early May. We threw mostly crankbaits and drop shots. He caught all of his smallmouth on a crankbait and I caught all of mine on a drop shot except for one on a crankbait. Didn’t get every fish on camera but still got a decent amount of footage.

Rather than casting, I prefer pitching a drop shot. Pitching it allows you to be more accurate and get in good casts right at the edge of docks. I was using 15 lb braid with 8 lb fluorocarbon leader. Can’t beat a 3.75″ zipperworm drop shot shaker in green pumpkin!

Spring Bass Fishing – Targeting Beds For Smallmouth

My buddy and I went out to a local lake in search of smallmouth bass! We were hoping that a lot of them would be on the beds already but that wasn’t exactly the case. We went around the entire lake and only found a small handful of bass on beds. This time last year, we slayed the smallmouth by fishing deeper docks and transition areas with crankbaits and a drop shot. That was not the case today.

I did manage to catch a total of 5 smallmouth and my buddy caught 2. The majority of the fish were caught on a jig. The biggest took a crankbait and the second biggest took a drop shot.

Western Washington is FINALLY getting some nice weather so the water is starting to warm up a bit! The surface temp on this particular lake hit 65 at one point. It was 60 in the morning and warmed up to around 64 by late afternoon.
